Migratory Behavior of Turtles

By Riddhima Pal on 30 Nov -0001

Turtles are one of nature’s most fascinating navigators. Every year, sea turtles migrate thousands of kilometers between feeding grounds and nesting beaches with pinpoint precision. Green sea turtles, loggerheads, and leatherbacks use Earth’s magnetic fields and ocean currents to guide their journey. They often return to the very beach where they were born to lay eggs—a phenomenon known as natal homing. These migrations are triggered by changes in temperature, food availability, and breeding instincts. Studying their patterns helps scientists understand marine ecosystems and underscores the importance of protecting both nesting sites and migratory routes.
